We play a critical role in driving semiconductor breakthroughs for the next generation. Since 2015, Unlock Ideas has been an integral program to unleash the power of innovation by providing gifts to university faculty to test the feasibility of new concepts.
Our university collaborators provide expertise, new approaches, and access to specialized capabilities or facilities to address industry challenges in these fields.
Since its inception, the Unlock Ideas program has funded over 160 research proposals written by the Lam global technical community in partnership with university faculty worldwide. These research awards address challenges and explore technologies for the future of Lam and the semiconductor industry, while strengthening relationships with professors and students and fueling our talent pipeline.
The highly competitive program looks for disruptive ideas on our enabling technologies for semiconductor fabrication equipment. We seek innovative research in the areas of automation and robotics, process and materials, software and controls and subsystems, and sustainability and productivity. Sustainability was added as a new focus to seek innovations to reduce the environmental impact of our products and processes and the industry overall.
