Live from a rooftop studio overlooking the San Francisco Bay, Lam’s President and CEO Martin Anstice spoke with anchors from CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” on Monday, April 27. During the interview, Martin shared his thoughts on Lam’s recent earnings, growth drivers, and an exciting future for technology innovation.
Explaining Lam’s strong quarterly financial results, Martin noted that the company has long focused on the technology inflections of 3D device architectures, multiple patterning, and advanced packaging, where etch and deposition play key roles. “The story for Lam Research,” he said, “is that we have the right products at the right time, and we are executing extremely well.”
During the discussion, Martin described the long-term continued performance and cost benefits of Moore’s Law as coming from device architecture and next-generation materials. He expects the capability of Lam’s customers and the industry will sustain innovation in these areas for many years to come. Looking to 2020 and beyond, Martin pointed out that there is much more diversity driving the semiconductor industry. “Whether it’s an IoT theme, a connectivity, [or] a mobile theme, there are lots of devices in our future and lots of silicon as a result of that.” In closing, he reiterated that Lam’s focus will continue to be on delivering enabling technology for our customers’ roadmaps.
