Due to shelter in place directives as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Heart & Soles Walk/Run went totally virtual this year. It was a different experience but still benefitted the same great causes. And as a long-time supporter, Lam Research was proud to collaborate with the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation to bring this family-friendly event to the community. Although we missed the comradery and beautiful Santa Clara surroundings with our friends and colleagues, hundreds of registered participants still put on their race jerseys and went for a walk, run, or jog on their own. The event proceeds were donated to the local community partners who are supporting youth health & wellness programs, with the belief that when school children exercise and eat better, they learn better.

Started in 2014, the Heart & Soles Run initially set a three-year goal to improve school nutrition by putting salad bars into local K-12 schools. Under this project, nearly 200 schools received funds for new salad bars that serve approximately 150,000 children. The funds raised are allocated to projects relevant to the “Healthy Students” in the community and will be used by our beneficiary partners to promote increased physical activity and access to healthy foods among the student populations they serve.

The 2020 beneficiary partners include:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County (youth guidance)
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (youth guidance)
  • San Jose Earthquakes Community Fund (exercise for kids)
  • Santa Clara County Office of Education (running for kids)
  • Specialized Foundation (youth health and safe cycling)
  • YMCA of Silicon Valley (healthy eating and physical activity standards)

Following are just a few photos shared by those who were committed to staying fit while supporting our local youth.
