Giving back to our local communities is a year-round mission at Lam, and we capped off the end of 2016 with our “Deliver Joy” holiday giving activities. More than 1,400 Lam employees around the world gave over 1,900 hours of their time for volunteering during the holiday campaign. We saw an increase of 30% in volunteer hours and a 16% increase in total contributions from the previous year. Through employee donations, business group sponsorships, and the Lam Foundation Employee Gift Match program, which matches both donations and volunteer time, more than $625,000 was raised toward giving back to our local communities during the 2016 holiday season.

Read on to learn about some of the #LamCares activities that took place around the globe. We hope these may inspire you to remember the less-fortunate not only during the holidays, but through the year.

Providing Warmth to Those in Need

From the San Francisco Bay Area to Oregon to Italy, Lam employees participated in blanket, coat, and clothing drives to help provide winter essentials to those in need. Employees in Tualatin, Oregon, held an onsite blanket drive, collecting ~200 blankets and assembling 75 personal-care packets. Partnering with the Portland Rescue Mission, a group of employees then distributed the items to the homeless in downtown Portland. In Fremont, California, coats and donations were collected in partnership with One Warm Coat, a national organization that supports more than 3,000 coat drives each year, with the mission to provide free coats to anyone in need. Over at Lam Research Italy, employees collected clothing for the homeless, delivering several boxes of donations for the Italian Red Cross.

Sorting and Distributing Food

Employees at our Oregon sites volunteered at the Tualatin School House Food Pantry and handed out items needed for Thanksgiving dinner. Volunteers sorted everything from turkeys to stuffing to cranberry sauce. They also helped sort and bag individual snack packets and laundry detergent to further assist families in need. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Lam volunteers participated in several food sorts at the Second Harvest Food Bank, an organization that distributes food to more than 250,000 people each month.

Helping Grant Childrens’ Holiday Wishes

Lam Research Taiwan held a gift collection to fulfill Wish Cards for local underserved children. More than 50 employees participated and collected 107 gifts in this drive. A group of employees then wrapped and delivered the gifts to The Mustard Seed Mission. Employees in Oregon helped support the Community Cycling Center’s Holiday Bike Drive, which gave bicycles to more than 400 kids ages 3 to 8 from low income families in the local Portland area. In addition to providing bicycles and helmets, the event also included training sessions to teach children about bicycle safety. Over in Singapore, employees participated in their annual “Grant a Wish” program to help fulfill children’s Christmas wishes. The program is in partnership with Singapore Children’s Society Sunbeam Place, a stay-in facility that provides a safe and home-like environment for disadvantaged children between 2 and 18 years old.

Delivering Care to Senior Citizens

Lam Research India participated in the “We Are With You – Elders” donation drive to purchase and distribute sweaters, blankets, socks, bedsheets, chairs, and scarves for 11 local seniors homes. More than 200 employees participated by giving monetary donations and providing dozens of items to senior citizens. Back in California, we partnered with the City of Fremont Human Services Department to help seniors in need: 40 employees from Fremont purchased and wrapped more than $4,000 worth of gifts for 50 senior citizens in the local community.

Fundraisers for Local Charities

Lam Research Austria participated in a “Tombola,” or fundraiser, to collect donations, vouchers, and presents from local shops and restaurants for two local charities. Employees collected ~6,400 Euro (nearly $7,000 USD) for Kärntner in Not (Carinthian in Need) and Kärntner Kinderkrebshilfe (Carinthian Children’s Cancer Care), exceeding what they raised the previous year. Employees in our Tualatin, Oregon, office also organized a year-end fundraiser and collected ~$7,000 for the Tigard-Tualatin Family Resource Center. The Center’s goal is to help families become more self-sufficient and increase successful relationships in the school district and community.
