Along with many of our friends and colleagues around the world, we look forward to the start of the new lunar year and anticipate the opportunities and experiences it may bring. For 2017, the lunar year will begin on Saturday, January 28, with the second new moon after the winter solstice – perhaps announced at dawn by a proud “good morning” crow from its rooster. Although 2017 shares the fire element of 2016’s monkey, expectations for the new year’s characteristics could hardly be more distinct. After all, the rooster is a very different animal, and with that in mind, many foresee much hope and promise in the months ahead.

The rooster is the tenth animal in the cyclical Asian Zodiac. Known as the “dawn awakener,” it is understood to be punctual and is viewed as hardworking, resourceful, courageous, talented, and honest, among other traits. The fire element or energy – one of five influences said to impact the temperament of the year’s animal – has qualities that include persistence, strength, creativity, inner warmth, and insight. Together, the animal’s personality and energy influence and shape expectations for the new lunar year. Rooster years are believed to be filled with integrity and efficiency, where hard work fueled by the rooster’s confidence and courage can lead to success. 2017 is also expected to be a good year for relationships, both personal and professional, based in the honesty of the rooster’s temperament.

Following the adventurous fire monkey, it is our sincere hope that the positive values and character expected of the fire rooster year will mean a fulfilling and successful 2017 for each of you.
