Corporate, Life at Lam

Located in the heart of Oregon’s “Silicon Forest,” Lam’s 58-acre Tualatin campus is about 15 miles southwest of downtown Portland and has been in operation since 2001. Lam Research is the only major semiconductor equipment manufacturer with significant operations in Oregon, and we are Tualatin’s largest employer in the private sector.

The Tualatin facility is home to several of our thin film deposition product lines, which are designed and developed here. These include electrochemical deposition (ECD) for copper and other metal films, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) of dielectric films, and atomic layer deposition (ALD) of dielectrics. The Tualatin site also manufactures all of Lam’s deposition products, as well as our photoresist strip products, and about one-third of its employees work in manufacturing. In fact, Lam Research was one of the Portland Business Journal’s “2013 Oregon Manufacturing Awards” honorees in the “Large (Company) Category.”

What’s it like to work at Lam in Oregon? Our employees say they like the focus on innovation and collaboration and that the fast pace is balanced by a relaxed and friendly environment. It is also a place of opportunity, where employees from multiple disciplines – including product development, engineering, marketing, and manufacturing – gain cross-functional experience and find their career goals supported by ongoing training and development. In addition, Lam invests in the education of next-generation professionals through local scholarships and internship programs.

When not at the office, employees find the Tualatin area to be very family-oriented, with a reasonable cost of living and a high quality of life. The Portland metro area is right next door, and for those who like the outdoors, there are multiple opportunities within an hour’s drive for hiking, camping, and skiing at nearby Mt. Hood.
