Lam Research is a company whose actions are inspired by its Core Values, two of which are Teamwork and Open Communication. Consistent with that culture, when the company wanted to celebrate achieving a $1 billion revenue quarter in 2013 with a $1 million charitable donation, employees were included in the decision.

Six highly regarded international non-profit organizations were chosen to split the $1 million donation. Each organization represented one of the following causes: animal protection (World Wildlife Fund), children (UNICEF), disaster relief (Red Cross/Red Crescent), environment (Conservation International), hunger (World Food Programme), and health (Project HOPE).

Over the course of several months, employees from Lam offices around the globe were asked to cast their vote for which organization they wanted to support, with the following results:

Funds for the $1 million donation came from the Lam Research Foundation, Lam’s charitable giving organization. Through the Lam Research Foundation, Lam has donated nearly $15 million in grants to non-profit organizations around the world since 2000.
